My Husband Was Always at Work, So I Booked an Appointment with Him as a Surprise – But When I Saw What He Actually Did for a Living, I Nearly Fainted

Marco finally came home after midnight and found me asleep on the couch.

The next morning, he kissed my forehead as though nothing unusual had happened.

“I’ll make it up to you, darling.”

I smiled.

But after he left, something inside me finally gave way.

I searched his name online.

I expected to find a hospital website.

Instead, I found a booking page.

I stared at the screen.

The business didn’t look like a hospital.

It didn’t even look particularly medical.

Then I started reading the reviews.

Almost every review was from a woman.

One said:

“Marco changed my life.”

Another read:

“I was terrified, but he made me feel beautiful again.”

Then I saw one that made my hand freeze over the mouse.

“My husband still doesn’t know I went to him.”

And then another:

“Ladies, trust me. He is worth every penny.”

I leaned back in my chair.

What exactly was my husband doing?

I had no answer.

So I did something that seemed funny at the time.

I booked an appointment.

I used my maiden name.

It was supposed to be a surprise.

A little joke between husband and wife.

I imagined walking into his workplace, announcing myself, and watching his face light up because I had finally decided to see where he spent so much of his time.

Instead, I walked into an ordinary office building on the edge of town.

There was no hospital.

No medical signage.

No indication that a hospital was even connected to the place.

Just a receptionist in a perfect blazer who smiled politely and said:

“Marco will see you shortly.”

Four women were already waiting.

One looked about 25.

Another looked nearly 70.

The other two were somewhere in between.

When Marco’s name came up, all four women smiled in the same private way.

That was the first moment I felt something was strange.

By the time I reached his office, I had convinced myself of almost every possible explanation.

None of them prepared me for what I saw.

Marco was holding a measuring tape when I walked in.

That was the first thing I noticed.

He had his back to me, adjusting something on a mannequin.

Behind him stood a rack of women’s dresses.

Cream blouses.

Black dresses.

Handbags.

Pairs of heels.

Styled wigs.

Three wigs rested on mannequin heads near a makeup station.

A full-length mirror stood against one wall.

A camera was mounted on a tripod nearby.

For three seconds, my brain simply stopped cooperating.

I stood frozen in the doorway, gripping my purse.

“Marco?”

He turned.

All the color drained from his face.

“G-Gigi?”

The measuring tape slipped from his hand and landed on the floor.

I looked around the room again.

Then back at him.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

I almost laughed.

“That’s your first question?”

Marco took one step toward me.

“Gigi, I can explain.”

“You told me you worked with a hospital.”

“I do.”
