My Sister Asked Me to Attend Her Birthday Alone-Her Reason Exposed a Secret Plan

Three days before my sister Leah’s birthday, she called me with a request I never expected to hear.

She asked me to come to her birthday celebration alone.

Without my husband.

At first, I laughed.

I genuinely thought she was joking.

“Wait… why?” I asked. “What did Marcus do?”

There was a long silence on the other end of the phone.

When Leah finally spoke, her voice had changed. She sounded nervous, almost as if she was choosing every word carefully.

“Ask Marcus where he was last Friday.”

That was it.

She refused to say anything more.

I remember sitting there for several seconds, trying to make sense of what she had just said. There had been no obvious problems between Marcus and me. After nine years of marriage, I knew his routines well enough that I rarely questioned where he was or what he was doing.

But Leah’s strange warning immediately made me wonder whether I had been overlooking something.

That evening, I waited until Marcus came home.

He had previously told me that he would be working late that Friday because of a demanding client. He had arrived home after midnight, gone almost straight to the shower, and acted as though it had been an ordinary exhausting night at the office.

I decided to ask him again.

“Where were you last Friday?”

He barely looked up.

“At work.”

His answer came quickly.

Too quickly.

“You were there all evening?”

That time, he looked at me.

“Yeah. Why are you asking?”

I didn’t answer.

Instead, I called Leah.

“He says he was at work,” I told her.

There was another pause.

Then she quietly said something that made my stomach drop.

“He’s lying.”

I stared at the phone.

“How do you know?”

Her voice became even quieter.

“Because… he was with me.”

For a moment, I honestly couldn’t process what I had just heard.

“What do you mean he was with you?”

“Not like that. God, no.”

“Then what were you doing with my husband?”

Leah refused to explain.

All she would say was:

“You need to talk to Marcus.”

I hung up and walked back into the living room.

By then, I was shaking.

“Want to try that answer again?”

Marcus frowned.

“What?”

“My sister just told me you were with her on Friday.”

His expression changed instantly.

The color seemed to drain from his face.

And strangely, that frightened me more than any explanation could have.

Eventually, Marcus admitted that he had met Leah for coffee.

“So let me understand this,” I said. “My sister secretly asked you to meet her, you lied to me about where you were, and now I’m supposed to believe there was nothing else going on?”

“There wasn’t.”

“Then what did you talk about?”

He hesitated.

“You.”

I actually laughed.

Not because anything was funny, but because the answer was so absurd.

“So you lied to me so you could secretly meet my sister and discuss me?”

“It wasn’t like that,” he said.

Marcus insisted that Leah had contacted him and asked him to meet privately. He claimed she had shared something with him that she wasn’t ready to tell me yet.

He also kept saying that it wasn’t his place to reveal what Leah had told him.
